It challenges both your visual wit and your visual wisdom. You need to see out of the box.
The idea is that you as a participants should tell your own visual story. It is called storytelling. For those who want to know.
You should no longer be bound by the visual raw material that are in front of you. Much like a painter or a writer combines things from his of her imagination, you should to the same.
A painter is not bound by physical reality. Not is a writer. Nor should you be as a photographer.
Take the photograph above. In itself the elements are ordinary but in combination the two figures: the girl and the panting, makes for a new message. I call it The Chat Room.
The photograph with that particular message would not have existed if someone had not seen the possible combination of elements and captured them in a frame. In this instance it happened to be me. Could as well have been you.
The photograph: The Chat Room, transcends what is already there. That is what make it a photograph.
It is all about simplicity and seeing straight. Straight out of the box.
Good luck with February Challenge.
